We fell in love, and so will you…
When the owners first set foot in the courtyard behind the building, they were enchanted by its “secret garden” feeling. The sound of the birds in the trees and the water feature bubbling away allowed them to momentarily forget that they were in the middle of a bustling town. And that’s when they realised that the Barefoot Cook would serve as a peaceful getaway for those who seek to be whisked away on a food adventure.
Head Chef and creative genius, Anton, deems himself a flavour artist who considers every plate a blank canvas ready to be adorned with colours, textures and tastes that will make your palate sing. And you won’t find a more memorable setting to enjoy his creations in than Barefoot Cook. If ‘mainstream’ is not your thing, join us for high quality dishes that combine European influence with South African flair, served in a stylish, yet relaxed, environment.View Gallery

The perfect intimate function venue
We host memorable birthday parties, work functions, and any other special celebration
Our beautiful restaurant has been described as a “fairyland” because of the wonderful ambience in the outdoor area, especially. Complete with fairly lights and bunting, quirky décor and tall trees, the special venue leaves a lasting impression on all those who visit us.
Barefoot Cook can accommodate 20 guests indoors and a total of 50 guests if the outdoor seating area is included. Meals can either be plated and served by our trusty team, or prepared in the form of a buffet.

“A new venture by Hermanus's best chef, this intimate venue is a delight. The imaginative and creative skills of Anton, the chef, offer an excelling dining experience. Don't miss it when in Hermanus.”
“Very impressive! We were wondering around town after the First Friday Art Walk with no reservation! We tried everywhere! Lucky for us we were welcomed into Barefoot Cook and we were seated in a Fairy Land in the garden. We are so grateful to Anton and Liaan for seating us. Wonderful food! I would recommend the snails. Love, love, love this place!”
“Wow, sensational food, coupled with great informative service. Attentive, and knowledgeable staff. Small, but ample menu, giving everyone an opportunity to select something suitable. Will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.”
